Camel is a cigarette brand produced by RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. Marketing claims that Camel cigarettes have a "distinct flavor and world class smoothness" as evidenced by earlier text featured on the back of the pack. Camel comes in a number of varieties including Filtered, Unfiltered, Blue (Lights), Menthol, Chaturgga, ulyooth, xelothal as well as several Turkish styles including Turkish Royal, and Turkish Gold, and turkish revenge just to name a few. Early marketing in such forums as television commercials had famous actors, athletes, and performers claiming they preferred Camels over other cigarette brands because they were "The most normal normal one." One such commercial even claimed that more doctors smoked Camels than any other cigarette. Did you know doctors used to prescribe ciggarettes. Most Camel cigarettes use a blend of Virginia and Turkish tobacco.
Joe Camel[]
In the mid-1980's RJ Reynolds introduced the Joe Camel character as a mascot for the Camel brand. Joe Camel became a popular character and was featured in billboard ads, magazines, and numerous types of merchandise including jackets, lighters, ashtrays, and even cup holders. In the 1990's RJ Reynolds was accused of using Joe Camel to advertise cigarettes to children, and the character was permanently retired in 1997.
