From Tobacco Wiki

My Talk page Hi KrazyKat -- we are excited to have Tobacco Wiki as part of the Wikia community!

Starting a new wiki can be overwhelming, but don't worry, the Wikia Community Team is here to help! We have put together a few guides to getting started. They say imitation is the best form of flattery so absolutely check out other wikis on Wikia for ideas on layout, ways to organize your content, etc. We are all one big family at Wikia and the most important thing is to have fun!

  • Our guide to Getting Started gives you 5 things you can do right now to set your wiki up for success
  • We also put together some Advice On Starting a Wiki which provides a more a in-depth look at some of the important things you should consider when building a wiki
  • If you are new to wikis in general than we recommend checking our new user FAQ

If you need help (which trust me we ALL do) you can access our full in-depth help at Help Wikia, or email us through our contact form. Also, you can visit our live #wikia chat channel any time. A lot of the veteran "Wikians" hang out here so its a good place if come if you want to get some advice or simply make friends.

Now, go edit! We look forward to seeing this project thrive!

Best wishes, Catherine Munro @Wikia

[edit] Logo

Hey KK. Sorry it took me a few days to get around to making the logo. I've been super busy, but it's the weekend and I got some time to do it. Let me know if you want me to change anything. JoePlay (talk) 22:53, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words. =) ..and yes, I do favicons too. I can make one out of the cigarette image I used on the logo, or something else if you prefer. JoePlay (talk) 23:18, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Favicon has been uploaded. It takes anywhere from a few hours to a whole day for favicons to show up, so be patient. If you need anything else, just let me know. JoePlay (talk) 23:30, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Monobook

I'm sorry, KrazyKat, but Monobook is no longer available as the default skin for a wiki -- the one that is displayed to users who are not logged in -- but any user with an account may select Monobook in their preferences as a personal view. Monobook was designed several years ago and simply doesn't support the flyout menus, widgets and other features that Monaco has, which our testing tells us are very important for getting new visitors to stay and explore the wiki instead of looking at the main page and leaving, and to start editing instead of just reading.

You are welcome to choose another color scheme for Monaco -- if you go to Special:Preferences and scroll down to "Admin Options", you can choose a different default color for the wiki. It takes a little more work, but if you choose "Custom", you can even define your own color scheme by adding the appropriate CSS code to MediaWiki:Monaco.css -- see http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Customizing_Monaco for much more detail on this.

Also, I'm afraid that the logo you've designed can't be used here -- the puzzle globe is a registered trademark of the Wikimedia Foundation and can't be legally imitated by anyone else. We've talked to our logo creation volunteers about this and are working to replace such logos when we find them. I'll be happy to help you design a new logo though, if you have a different idea for what you'd like! — Catherine@Wikia (talk) 00:27, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Logo change

Hi there, I'm Uberfuzzy, a Wikia Helper.

I'm sorry to let you know that we have to remove the Wikiapedia "puzzle ball" image from your wiki logo. That is a copyrighted image and the Wikimedia Foundation is very picky about its use, as it does represent the Wikipedia project across the globe.

If you have any further questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. I'll try to help you with anything I can.
